Lady Jessica is a pivotal character in Frank Herbert's science fiction epic, Dune. She first appears in the novel, Dune, published in 1965.

Jessica is a Bene Gesserit Sister and the concubine of Duke Leto Atreides. Obeying the Bene Gesserit's breeding program, she was instructed to bear only daughters, but out of love for Leto, she chose to bear him a son, Paul Atreides. This act of defiance has profound consequences for the galaxy.

Trained in the Bene Gesserit ways, Jessica possesses exceptional mental and physical skills. She is adept at Voice, a powerful form of verbal manipulation, and skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Her influence over Paul is significant, as she imparts Bene Gesserit knowledge and discipline to him.

Following the Atreides' arrival on Arrakis, Jessica's role becomes increasingly crucial in navigating the treacherous political landscape and surviving the harsh desert environment. She eventually becomes a Reverend Mother of the Fremen, adapting to their culture and wielding considerable power within their society.
